A day in the Life of Lucilius

Updated: Mar 24

Let me paint a picture of what an incredible day, structured to conquer life's adventures, looks like through my eyes.

Welcome to my daily life reflections, where I invite you to join me on a journey of self-discovery and growth. As an avid traveler and seeker of new experiences, I've always found solace and inspiration in exploring the world and immersing myself in diverse cultures. My recent Workaway adventure has ignited a profound sense of purpose within me, as I've come to realize the invaluable connections and insights that can be gained through meaningful interactions with locals and the embracing of unfamiliar environments.

Through my daily musings, I aim to share the lessons learned from my adventures, offering practical advice and heartfelt anecdotes that resonate with fellow wanderers and seekers of life's rich tapestry. Join me as we navigate the joys and challenges of daily life with curiosity, compassion, and a thirst for discovery.

1- Routine + Discipline + Peace of Mind = Awareness

Every night, I plan out my next day. This ensures that when I wake up in the morning, I'm ready to go because I've already mapped out my routine and activities. Deep down, I know that hitting the snooze button means I'm starting my day off on the wrong foot. So, no matter the circumstances – whether I'm in my mom's basement, camping on a mountain, or recovering from a wild night – I make sure to plan ahead. This practice gives me immense confidence in upholding my commitments to myself. It's about promising to improve myself, my life, and my business each day, and then following through. Achieving this brings me a profound sense of peace. It all starts with establishing routines based on my values and responsibilities, and then staying consistent, persistent, and resilient in fulfilling those promises. Only then do I find peace within myself and my mind. And suddenly, I realize I've become everything I ever dreamed of – that's true awareness, true enlightenment.

2- Meditation + Workout + Journal + Read + Breathe + Share

I'll be honest with you. I only started this journey about 8 months ago, but it has completely transformed my life. My physical and mental health have seen remarkable improvements, and I now perceive the world around me in a whole new light. I've cultivated a sense of self-respect and developed consistency and discipline in a fun and engaging manner to get things done. The six habits I religiously practice every day have played a significant role in this transformation.

Meditation

Meditation is one of these habits. Whether it's a 5-minute breathwork session on my meditation puff or simply taking 10 deep breaths in moments of stress, I integrate meditation into my daily routine. It helps me calm my thoughts and emotions, enhances my awareness of life's direction, and strengthens my connection with a higher power. Starting with just 2 minutes can make a significant difference. This might involve 10 reps of deep breathing paired with stretching exercises or a mindful walk without distractions, where I focus on observing and appreciating my surroundings. Simply put, meditation is key.

"Whom to breathe, will be gifted, whom fear to breathe, will suffer in it."

Workout

Likewise, incorporating physical movement, stretching, correcting posture, walking considerable distances, weightlifting, and engaging in fundamental bodyweight exercises such as push-ups, pull-ups, and running have become integral parts of my daily routine. I make it a point to religiously perform a minimum of 100 push-ups every single day. On most days, I dedicate between 30 minutes to an hour to intense workout sessions that truly challenge my limits.

This commitment to physical activity is not just about staying fit; it's about cultivating awareness and taking proactive steps to enhance my overall well-being. By pushing through discomfort and fatigue, I've developed tremendous mental toughness, confidence, and a relentless drive for self-improvement. This consistent discipline has also instilled a sense of joy and satisfaction in achieving a great workout.

For those looking to start their fitness journey, I recommend beginning with simple activities like walking throughout the day, free from distractions. Take deep breaths, tune into the sounds of nature, and embrace the serenity of the outdoors – it's a wonderful way to kickstart your physical and mental transformation.

No phone, no pool, no pet. I don't have cigarettes. :)

Journaling / Reading

Practicing writing and reading, these timeless forms of human connection, goes beyond mere communication; they lead to self-discovery and reflection. Every day, I make it a point to journal and read. Before bed, I plan out tomorrow's tasks, setting the stage for a focused day ahead. My reading list includes Taoism, Stoicism, and the wisdom of thinkers like Socrates, Plato, Nietzsche, Camus, Dostoyevsky, Tolstoy, and Lao Tzu. Like any habit, the commitment to writing and reading can be adjusted to fit your schedule. I also start each morning with gratitude, jotting down three things I'm thankful for and three happy moments from the day before. Whether it's waking up early feeling refreshed or enjoying a peaceful morning walk, there's beauty in life's simple pleasures. Embracing gratitude and mindfulness, every moment becomes a treasure to capture in my journal.

"Writing is to escape alone, reading is to embracing it." - Lucilius Meursault

In the canvas of daily life, I invite you to glimpse a day crafted with intention and purpose.

Through structured routines and disciplined habits, I find peace and clarity amidst life's adventures. Meditation grounds me, while exercise invigorates my body and mind. Writing and reading offer moments of reflection and growth, as I explore the wisdom of philosophers and document moments of gratitude. In simplicity, I discover the richness of existence, embracing each day with curiosity and gratitude. Welcome to a journey of self-discovery and fulfillment.
